    Before you travel

Check your passport and visa separately

The IMUGA records travel information. It does not establish your visa eligibility or permitted stay in Maldives. Those rules depend on nationality, residence, travel purpose and route.

    • Use the passport you will carry when you travel.
    • Check passport validity and any visa requirement with the authority.
    • Check separate rules for transit, children and residents.

Practical details for your next step. Immigration requirements can change; check the authority’s current instructions before submission.

    Use the official 96-hour window

The IMUGA portal states that the declaration must be submitted within 96 hours before the flight time for arrival. It provides separate options to create, edit and verify a declaration.

For an itinerary with connections, keep the details of the flight arriving in the Maldives to hand. If you are uncertain which time or flight to enter, follow the field instructions and seek clarification through the official portal rather than guessing.

    The official declaration is free

Maldives Immigration says there is no charge for submitting the Traveller Declaration and advises travelers to use IMUGA directly. A private service fee is not an official IMUGA fee.

Keep any official declaration record separate from your resort booking and other travel documents. A booking confirmation or a private enquiry does not show that a declaration has been submitted.

    Arrival and departure are different

Maldives Immigration removed the outbound Traveller Declaration requirement from 15 August 2024. Its announcement retains the declaration for arrivals. Be careful with older guides that still instruct every departing passenger to complete another form.

Before a new trip, check the current arrival instructions again instead of reusing a previous journey’s record. Completing the declaration does not settle separate questions about your passport, visa or admission.

    Prepare a useful support question

Have your arrival flight date, passport-issuing country and accommodation details ready for the official process. For a general enquiry, describe the question and travel date without attaching passport scans or sensitive identification numbers.

If a flight change affects a submitted declaration, use IMUGA’s edit or verification options and follow its current instructions. Keep the latest record easy to identify among your travel documents.
