Before you travel
Check your passport and visa separately
The TWAC records travel information. It does not establish your visa eligibility or permitted stay in Taiwan. Those rules depend on nationality, residence, travel purpose and route.
- Use the passport you will carry when you travel.
- Check passport validity and any visa requirement with the authority.
- Check separate rules for transit, children and residents.

Preparing your TWAC
Practical details for your next step. Immigration requirements can change; check the authority’s current instructions before submission.
Seven days, not the older three-day window
Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency announced the expanded seven-day submission window on 15 July 2026. Some older official announcements and travel guides still refer to three days; the newer announcement and current TWAC portal are the relevant timing references.
Complete the required declaration before immigration clearance. TWAC is separate from any visa or residence document and does not determine how long you can stay.
Check whether your traveler category must submit
The TWAC portal lists foreign nationals without an Alien Resident Certificate, Resident Visa or Diplomatic ID card, along with specified categories of travelers from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau and nationals without household registration.
Use the exact category shown by the official portal. The fact that you live in the US, Canada or Europe does not establish your Taiwan residence status or an exemption.
Complete and check your TWAC
- Open twac.immigration.gov.tw and verify an email address you can access.
- Prepare your valid passport, contact details, occupation, travel itinerary and accommodation information.
- Review your information before submitting. If your plans change, use the official update option rather than assuming a previous record reflects the new journey.
- Keep the confirmation for your records. NIA says officers retrieve the submitted record using the passport; the confirmation email does not need to be presented during inspection.
Avoid confusing submission with approval
An email confirming a TWAC submission is not approval of a visa or an entitlement to enter. Check your separate entry requirements before travel.
For a family trip, make a record of which travelers have completed the required declaration. Match each record to the passport that person will actually carry, especially if a passport has recently been renewed.
